1. Personengruppen
the + Adjektiv
Beispiel:
Die Blinden brauchen Unterstützung. The blind need support.
Solche Konstruktionen werden vor allem in Bezug auf “etablierte Klassen” (the rich, the poor, the unemployed, …) verwendet.
Adjektiv + Nomen (z.B. people, men, children...)
Beispiel:
Blinde brauchen Unterstützung. Blind people need support.
2. Einzelpersonen
Einzahl
the + Adjektiv + Substantiv
Beispiel:
Der Blinde überquert die Straße. The blind man is crossing the street.
Mehrzahl
the + Adjektiv + Substantiv (im Plural)
Beispiel:
Die Blinden überqueren die Straße. The blind people are crossing the street.
3. Abstrakta
the + Adjektiv
Beispiel:
Das Exotische (an sich) fasziniert mich. I am fascinated by the exotic.
Adjektiv + Substantiv
Beispiel:
Exotisches fasziniert mich. I am fascinated by exotic things.
the + Adjektiv + aspect/side/element (= eine bestimmte Verkörperung einer Eigenschaft)
Beispiel:
Das Exotische an dieser Insel ist toll. The exotic aspect of this island is great.
