Beispiel - Aktiv:
The lady who was sitting on the bench was Mrs. Simons. (Relativsatz Aktiv)
Partizipialsatz:
In Aktivsätzen wird das Present Participle verwendet.
The lady sitting on the bench was Mrs. Simons.
Beispiel- Passiv:
Have you ever eaten strawberries that were grown in California?
Hast du je Erdbeeren gegessen, die in Kalifornien angebaut werden?
Partizipialsatz (Passiv):
In Passivsätzen wird das Past Participle verwendet.
Have you ever eaten Strawberries grown in California?
Hast du je in Kalifornien angebaute Erdbeeren gegessen?
Übung:
She spoke to the children who were playing on the floor.
Illegal immigrants that are caught by the US Border Patrol are sent back.
Mrs. Smith sat in the bus that was taking her back to Los Angeles.
The lady who was hurt in the accident was Mrs. Smith.
Lösung:
She spoke to the children playing on the floor.

Participle constructions – instead of subordinate clauses of time and reason |
Beispiel: I went to bed because I felt tired. (subordinate clause) Feeling tired I went to bed. (participle construction)
Beispiel: I was very good at running when I was younger. Being younger I was very good at running. While I was waiting for John I made some tea. Waiting for John I made some tea. As soon as I arrive home I will call you. Arriving home I will call you. After I have finished dinner I must clean the kitchen. Having finished dinner I must clean the kitchen.
Beispiel: I pass the exams because I study hard. Studying hard I pass the exams. As I look after my brother today I made lunch for him. Looking after my brother today I made lunch for him. The reason why I go to Canada is that I want to learn English. Wanting to learn English I go to Canada. |
